My suggestion is to change without waiting the two 6SN7 tubes, I chose Shuguang Black Treasure CV181-Z tubes. I think mine worked a little bit less than that and the sound changed a lot, as often with new amps, especially when the tubes have to work a few tens of hours before giving the best. The speakers are Totem Sttaf of 88 db, so, not very sensitive and the 8 watts are very sufficient for me, without any problem and with a listening level already likely to disturb my dear neighbors if I wanted, which is not at all the caseįor listening, it is imperative to wait at least 50 hours. But the little Elekit uses 6L6 tubes and is not comparable with the Willsenton. He calls it an exceptional match.įor my part, I am confident and placed an order for the Willsenton R300 today !įor information, I currently own an Elekit TU-8200 SE amplifier of 8 watts too. And yet, with these particular speakers in any case, it's the Willsenton R300 that he recommends. What really caught my attention in this Klipch review is the fact that Jay's has also tested many amplifiers, all of which are excellent, including the much more expensive and powerful Willsenton R800i. Jay's Iyagi is testing it right now and very quickly mentions this unit here as a reference amplifier in the Klipch speaker test : Guys have taken these amplifiers apart and praised the excellent and serious workmanship. When I look at the reviews of the other Willsenton products, the R8 or the R800-i (805 SE tubes), all of them have been highly appreciated by several reviewers (Steve, Jay's, Iyagi, Thomas, British audiophile, and I appreciate each of them. Between the Boyuu Range and those, it's the sidereal void (wink to Captain Kirk). Its build quality for the price is very good, but then, the competing models, at least those available in France where I am, are offered at $4000 for the Cayin and from $6000 for the European models. I have been waiting for a device of this type for many years because I am not convinced by the Boyuu Range A50. I listened carefully to Steve's review and I was really intrigued. It also easily allows me to substitute Western Electric / RCA tubes.I am pleased to join your forum, curious about this 300b Willsenton amplifier. A quick Google search suggested that the company originally just sold audiophile transformers for hobbyists before going into their own full amplifier products, and the quality of a transformer is reported to be the an essential part of the tube sound. I think it is a beautiful modern appearance. It looks like the company out of China hired a design firm from Germany to help them design the looks. It's the right combination of attractive + value priced at <$2000 shipped via eBay. So, will it be possible to analyze this 300B amplifier and then create a transfer function that then allows the PK Metric of two musical recordings to be closer to this 300B? What "those colorations/distortions" to be added is less clear unknown. "If pleasant colorations are desired, you can take a transparent audio chain and add preferred colorations/distortions in software." Tools from allow you to create distortion transfer functions and there is a general consensus that: If there is a difference, can I get a solid-state amp to match a single-ended 300B tube amp? At something like 0.5W of power, will a PK Metric show a sufficient difference between a single ended 300B amplifier and a regular solid state amp? Or is the 300B tube sound all sighted bias?Ģ. There is a lot of hype about the 300B tubes being "musical." Tools from allow you to insert a distortion transfer function and to measure comparisons.ġ. In the excitement of ordering it, I failed to look at the photos carefully which is also why I'm creating this thread before its arrival and I start doing some measurements. I put in an order for a Raphaelite CS30-MKII 300B and have started this thread to share impressions and measurements along the way.
